Balance

Having the proper balance in life is crucial. Everyday we make decisions that affect us either for the better or the worse. I realize that although I am heavily involved in ministry and a professional musician, the same hands God gave me to play the drums, are the same hands that do household chores, yard work, caress my wife’s lovely face, and hold my children. Michael W. Smith has a song on one of his worship Cd’s titled “Heart of Worship”, and in this particular song he says that “When the music fades and all is stripped away and i simply come, longing just to bring something that’s of worth that will bless your heart, I will bring you more than a song for a song in itself is not what you have required”…”I am coming back to the heart of worship because it’s all about you…I’m sorry lord for the thing I’ve made it…I’m coming back to the heart of worship”…

These words are profound. In them is meaning deeper than the emotions that warm stage lights and compliments after your greatest feat can stir up. The Holy Spirit is our helper in discerning which road to take in this life. Sometimes we must stop take a look at our hands (figuratively and literally speaking) and ask God for proper balance, tune our ears, and then listen for instruction.
